Synopsis
Willow knows she's different from other girls. And not just because she loves tinkering around with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into peoples futures, know their dreams, their hopes and their regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where she gets this power from... But Alex does. Summary:
Alex was born to kill angels. He was trained from an early age to hate them and track them down after his family was destroyed by these celeste beings from the sky.
Willow led a quiet life. Maybe a little on the sidelines because of her ability to predict the future by touching people, but nothing exceptional until she made a reading for one of her high school classmate. By doing this prediction, her life changed. She meets an angel and becomes the person to kill. It is here that Alex, her assassin, appears.
But how to explain the danger of a teenage girl represent for overpowered angels?
To understand this question Willow will have to run away with Alex and make a strange discovery about herself.

Reactions:
In this first volume of the trilogy of L.A WEATHERLY, the auteur is far from describing the usual image of the guardian angels. Far from beings of light that illuminate the path of men in the darkness, the Angels are portrayed like pretty thirsty beasts who craved for the energy produced by humans. They feed literally of men. Letting them deteriorate physically and mentally after using them.

I found this novel approach very fresh and orginal. So, we enter a world with more black who is preparing an invasion, which could lead to the destruction of the human race. It changes a little from the story of vampires who want to conquer the world!

The main characters are well portrayed and endearing too. At the "badass attitude," Alex is a mixture of Jace Lightwood, the Shadowhunter of the series "Mortal Instruments" from Cassandra Clare, and Dean Winchester in the series "Supernatural." In short, it's a tough annoying guy with a marshmallow heart who plays the trigger with talent.

Willow is a little too smooth and green for my taste but she must save the world so I hope she will grow tougher in future adventures ...

Just be careful of construction of the action. If this first volume starts strong and ends with a shot of adrenaline, the middle is dedicated to the road trip and therefore a bit long. Although the author takes this party to focus on the relationship between the two heroes and their stories. The reader will wait a little to get into the thick of it. Except this point, the book have all the ingredients to attract the reader and keep him interested. Romantics will also find their account. To be continued with "Angel Fire".

Résumé:

Willow, elle, a mené une vie tranquille, même si un peu en marge à cause de son talent pour prédire l'avenir en touchant les gens. D'ailleurs lors d'une prédiction, pour une de ces camarades du lycée, sa vie bascule. Elle fait la rencontre d'un ange et devient la personne à abattre. C'est là qu'apparaît Alex, son assassin.
Comment expliquer le danger que représente une adolescente pour des anges surpuissants ? Elle trouvera les réponses à cette question et à bien d'autres en s'enfuyant avec Alex.

Impressions:
Dans ce premier volume de la trilogie de L.A WEATHERLY, on est loin de l'image habituelle des anges protecteurs. Loin d'être les êtres lumineux qui éclairent le chemin des hommes dans les ténèbres, les Anges sont plutôt des bêtes assoiffés de l'énergie produite par les humains. Ils se nourrissent littéralement d'eux. Les laissant dépérir physiquement et mentalement après usage.

J'ai trouvé cette approche originale. Du coup, on rentre dans un univers plutôt noir avec une invasion qui se prépare et qui pourrait mener à la destruction de la race humaine. Ça change un peu des vampires qui veulent conquérir le monde !

Les personnages principaux sont, eux aussi, bien dépeints et attachants. Au niveau de la « badass attitude », Alex est un mélange de Jace Lightwood, le shadowhunter de la serie « Mortal Instruments » de Cassandra Clare, et de Dean Winchester de la série « Supernatural ». Bref, c'est un gros dur agaçant avec un cœur en guimauve qui joue de la gâchette avec talent.
Willow est un peu trop lisse à mon goût mais elle doit sauver le monde donc j'espère qu'elle s'étoffera dans les prochains tomes...

Par contre attention à la construction de l'action. Si ce premier opus démarre fort et se finit par une bonne dose d'adrénaline, le milieu consacré au road trip est un peu long. Même si l'auteur profite de cette partie pour se concentrer sur la relation entre les deux héros et à nous expliquer leurs histoires, on tarde un peu à rentrer dans le vif du sujet. Cela n'empêche pas à ce livre d'avoir tous les ingrédients pour intéresser son lecteur. Les romantiques trouveront aussi leur compte. Affaire à suivre avec « Angel Fire ».
