THE SILENT WIFE BY A.S.A. HARRISON

Synopsis
A chilling psychological thriller about a marriage, a way of life, and how far one woman will go to keep what is rightfully hers

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose.

Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept.

Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.

Reactions
Beautifully written, this thriller, more psychological than frightening, got me hooked from the beginning to the end.

I loved the realistic depictions of the everyday life of this couple, with insignificant details that give life to the story.
At first, Jodi, a woman deceived by her cheater of a husband pained me.
After some time, her acceptance makes me want to shake some sens in her. Her denial, about the situation, seems so antiquated and pathetic that she becomes touching. She is also full of paradoxes. For exemple, her job as a psychologist, who listened about infidelity, while her life is going bersek.

As for Todd, his indecision, his way of undergoing events by playing ostrich and burying his head in the sand for fear of conflict...He is exceptional!

An unfaithful lover who is addicted to forbidden women and who can never settle for happiness. His indecency with Jodi about their financial situation gave me goosebumps because actually, his behavior was predictable but so atrocious... A real jerk!

His mistress, she, is a true cliché which I relished in all her juicy bitchiness.
All the characters are a treat!

The analysis of the 20-year relationship and its slipping-up is a real little gem. I loved the final twist though, I expected that Jodi take the bull by the horns in a great bloody explosion.

A very good book that made me react in many ways! I loved it.

Sentences

"In asserting that people don't change, what she means is that they don't change for the better. Whereas changing for the worse, that goes without saying."

"Because death is the end of troubles, trials, pain, sorrow, and fear.

Savamment comploté, le récit rappelle "Gone Girl" and "These Things Hidden".
